The 90th Warriors' Day Parade was held on August 20th, 2011. The 2011 parade was dedicated to the hundreds of volunteers who work so hard throughout the year to plan for a successful parade.

Ninety years ago, on August 27, 1921, more than 8,000 Veterans and Nursing Sisters marched in the first Warriors' Day Parade. Those who could not march due to battle injuries were transported in vehicles along the parade route. Veterans hopsitals brought thousands of injured Veterans on stretchers and placed them under the shade of the trees at the CNE so that they too could experience this remarkable event. The Veterans from that day are now departed but we remember them, along with the tens of thousands of men and women who have marched in the parade since then and those who have watched and cheered along the parade route.

Preceeded by two other huge Veterans parades at the CNE in 1919 and 1920, it became clearly evident in 1921 that a permanent day should be established on which veterans would parade annually at the CNE. And so, in 1921 The Warriors' Day Parade was founded. In those early days the parade was comprised of Veterans from WWI, the South African War, and the Fenian Raids. As time has passed by, Veterans from WWII, the Korean War, Afghanistan and other conflicts have taken their place along with currently serving members of the Canadian Forces to carry on a tradition now spanning ninety years.

Special thanks to our 2011 Reviewing Officer. Lieutenant-General Peter J. Devlin, CMM, MSC, CD, Chief of The Land Staff.
